Sample letter 1

Dear <<commissioner name>>,

Unfortunately, elections in Fargo aren't perfect. Not only was I impressed by the commission's move to make a special task force to look at improvements for our city's elections, I was also very happy with their recommendations. The idea of using approval voting to solve our election issues, like what to do with a third-party candidate in a two-party dominant system, sounds like a great idea.

I hope you'll place the task force's recommendations on the ballot next election for us to vote on.

Sample letter 2

<<date>>

Dear <<commissioner name>>,

Almost every time I vote I've been frustrated with the options available. I care about issues. Getting forced to try to find the lesser of two 'evils' when voting just makes me mad. After reading about it, I'm excited that Fargo could switch to approval voting.

Please give us the chance to vote on this reform by putting it on the ballot.

Sample letter 3

<<date>>

Dear <<commissioner name>>,

I support the Approval Voting recommendation from the Election Task Force. Approval voting is a sensible solution which will make sure the election results reflect what we actually want in contested elections, and I would love to see Fargo be a leader in this logical voting reform.

Fargo could show everyone else that there are better ways to run elections! Can you imagine this system at work on a federal level—where we could elect senators with higher approval ratings than the current "pick ONE" system that feeds the polarization of society?

Please put the task force's recommendations to switch to approval voting and add commissioners on the next ballot, giving us a chance to vote on them.

Thanks.
